Hvězdný čas je na orloji jediným časem, který se nevztahuje ke Slunci, ale k pohybu hvězd způsobeným rotací Země. Jeho ukazatelem je symbol hvězdy, který je pevně umístěn na prstenci se zvěrokruhem. Hvězdný den trvá 24 hodin, oproti slunečnímu dni je však o 4 minuty kratší. V průběhu roku rozdíl mezi slunečním a hvězdným dnem naroste o jeden celý den. Pouze jednou za rok, a to v den podzimní rovnodennosti, mají hvězdný a sluneční den stejnou hodnotu. Hvězdný čas je zobrazen na ciferníku s římskými číslicemi, který má dvakrát 12 hodin a slouží také ke čtení středoevropského (staroněmeckého) času.

Sidereal time is the only time on the clock that does not relate to the Sun but the stars' movement caused by the Earth's rotation. Its indicator is the star symbol, which is fixed on the zodiac ring. The sidereal day lasts 24 hours but is 4 minutes shorter than the solar day. Within a year, the difference between the solar day and the sidereal day increases by one full day. Only once a year, on the autumnal equinox, the sidereal and solar days are the same length.
