Medieval Prague

was full of battles for the throne, torture and suffering, but also heroism, art and beautiful legends. On this floor, you'll discover the most fascinating and entertaining historical facts and stories. Combined with fun photo spots, cinematic installations and interactive elements that bring the past to life, you'll be pulled straight into the Middle Ages.

War and communism

On this floor, you'll learn how these two dark periods began, what life was like during them, and what led to their end. You'll experience the bombing of Prague through overlaid archival footage, discover the trick Hitler used to occupy the city, and follow a chilling audio guide through Operation Anthropoid. Then comes a lull — and with it, the rise of the communist regime. Here you'll get a brief moment to breathe, with some lighter moments around a police car, an interrogation office and a prison cell. You'll be right in the middle of it all thanks to interactive photo points and immersive technology.

Freedom and the recent past

After the fall of communism came the truly wild 1990s. Step back into the era of the Velvet Revolution, remember Václav Havel, and discover Czech achievements that became famous around the world. One of them is a unique combination of two Czech master crafts — 3D printing and glassmaking — shown in breathtaking replicas of the coronation jewels. The whole floor breathes freedom, heightened by the view of the square and Prague Castle. There's no shortage of fun here either, brought to life through immersive technology, and a nostalgic 1990s room takes you back in time.
