The tension in the capital reached a violent boiling point on July 30, 1419. A radical Hussite priest named Jan Želivský led a fiery procession through the medieval streets. When a stone was thrown at the crowd from the windows of the New Town Hall, all hell broke loose.
The angry mob stormed the building in a blinding rage. In a shocking act of violence, they threw the judge, the burgomaster, and several town councilors out of the high windows onto the waiting spears of the armed crowd below. This brutal event, known as the First Defenestration of Prague, marked the official beginning of the bloody Hussite Wars.

Following the defenestration, the Kingdom of Bohemia plunged into a massive religious and military conflict that would last for over a decade. The Hussites, featuring legendary commanders like the undefeated, blind general Jan Žižka, successfully defended their beliefs against multiple massive crusades. They pioneered innovative and devastating military tactics, including heavily armored war wagons and the early battlefield use of firearms, making them a terrifying force in 15th-century Europe.
