Judas's cradle

Jidášova kolébka působila odsouzenci nepředstavitelná muka. Obviněný byl spoután lany a vytažen nad konstrukci tak, aby jeho tělo na jehlan nasedlo. Vrchol pyramidy se pak dotyčnému zabodával buď do konečníku, nebo do vagíny. Oběť se chvíli snažila vzdorovat zatnutím svěračů, ale trýznitelé ji postupně na lanech spouštěli níže a níže, až se ostrý hrot zabodával hlouběji do těla a rozšiřoval tak tělní otvor. Někdy se odsouzenci připevnila na chodidla těžká závaží nebo se s ním všelijak kroutilo, aby se utrpení znásobilo. K nesnesitelné bolesti se přidalo také ponížení, před výkonem trestu byl odsouzený vysvlečen do naha, aby jej mučitelé s přesností nabodli na ostrý hrot. Takto se oběť trýznila několik hodin, nebo dokonce dní. Obvykle zemřela na vykrvácení nebo infekci, špičku pyramidy totiž nikdo nečistil.
Původně měla Jidášova kolébka sloužit jako humánní alternativa středověkých mučidel. Její vynálezce, italský intelektuál a kritik barbarských mučících metod v 15. století, Ippolito Marsili, ji zhotovil za účelem deprivace spánku. Ostrý hrot měl vězně pouze nutit mít všechny svaly neustále napnuté, rozhodně se ale neměl zabodávat do těla.

Judas's cradle caused unimaginable torment to the condemned. The accused was tied with ropes and pulled over the structure so that his body sat on the pyramid. The top of the pyramid was then inserted into the person's anus or vagina. The victim tried to resist for a while by clenching the sphincters, but the tormentors gradually lowered him lower and lower on the ropes, until the sharp point stuck deeper into the body, widening the body opening. Sometimes heavy weights were attached to the feet of the condemned or they were twisted in any way to increase the suffering. Humiliation was added to the unbearable pain. Before the execution of the sentence, the condemned man was stripped naked so that the torturers impaled him with precision on a sharp point. In this way, the victim was tortured for several hours or even days. She usually died of exsanguination or infection. No one cleaned the top of the pyramid.

Originally, the Judas cradle was intended to serve as a humane alternative to medieval torture. Its inventor, an Italian intellectual and critic of barbaric torture methods in the 15th century, Ippolito Marsili, made it for the purpose of sleep deprivation. The sharp point was only supposed to force the prisoner to have all his muscles constantly tense, but it certainly wasn't supposed to stick into the body.
