Do bitvy u Kresčaku, kde 26. srpna 1346 český král padl, se Jan Lucemburský nechal vést slepý. Byla to bitva ve stoleté válce mezi Francií a Anglií a český král zde bojoval pod korouhví francouzského krále Filipa VI. Podle kronikáře Beneše Krabice z Weitmile v ní pronesl slavnou větu: „Toho bohdá nebude, aby český král z boje utíkal“. Král se tak stal hrdinou celé Evropy, mluvilo se o něm na všech dvorech.

The blind King of Bohemia was led to the battle of Crécy, where he was killed on August 26, 1346, in the Hundred Years' War between France and England. The King of Bohemia fought under the banner of Philip VI, King of France. According to the chronicler, Beneš Krabice of Weitmile, he uttered the famous sentence: "Far be it that the King of Bohemia should run away." After his death, the king became the hero of all of Europe and was spoken about in all courts.
