První odhoz pum na elektrárnu v Holešovicích v listopadu 1944 byl v porovnání s těmi pozdějšími zanedbatelnou událostí.
Mnohem ničivější účinek mělo omylné americké bombardování Prahy v únoru 1945. Další měsíc došlo k již záměrnému bombardování hlavního města. Americké stroje tentokrát cílily na průmyslovou oblast v severovýchodním cípu města, konkrétně se pod útokem ocitly závody ČKD a letiště ve Kbelích a Letňanech.
Nad Prahu vzlétly i německé letouny. Neúspěšně se snažily rozehnat české povstalce během Pražského povstání. Nešlo ovšem o koordinovaný kobercový nálet, ale spíše o útoky jednotlivých bombardérů, neboť větší část Luftwaffe byla v tu dobu zaměstnána souboji s blížící se Rudou armádou. Právě Sověti pak mají na svědomí oběti náletů v posledních dnech války. Při bombardování ustupujících Němců zahynuly i stovky českých civilistů. Za komunistického režimu byly zmínky o těchto ruských náletech zamlčovány.

The first bombs were dropped on the power station in Holešovice in November 1944, and it was a minor event compared to the later ones.
When the Americans dropped their bombs on Prague in February 1945 by accident, the consequences were far more devastating. The following month, they bombed the capital again, this time intentionally. The American machines targeted the industrial area in the northeastern corner of the city, specifically the ČKD plants and the airports in Kbely and Letňany.
In May 1945, German planes also flew over Prague and were unsuccessful in eliminating the Czech rebels during the Prague Uprising. However, this was not a coordinated carpet bombing but a series of attacks by individual bombs, as most of the Luftwaffe's forces were busy fighting the approaching Red Army at the time. Hundreds of Czech civilians were killed while the Soviets were bombing the retreating Germans. It was the Soviets who were responsible for the casualties of the air raids during the last days of the war. Later, during the communist regime, any references to the Russian air raids were kept quiet.
