V době, kdy Prahu obsadila švédská vojska, byl Karlův most jediným mostem přes Vltavu. Se švédskými vojsky pod hradem zbyla Pražanům na druhé straně řeky jediná možnost – postavit barikádu a zatarasit tak Švédům vstup na Křižovické náměstí, tedy před budovu muzea, kde se nyní nacházíme. Jako lusknutím prstu zmizely všechny jinak společensky vnímané rozdíly mezi lidmi a kdo mohl, přidal ruku k dílu. Ať už se jednalo o kata, kněze či studenta, Pražané měli jasno; ubránit Prahu za každou cenu!

When Swedish troops seized Prague, the Charles Bridge was the only bridge over the Vltava River. With Swedish troops under the Castle, the citizens of Prague on the other side of the river took the only course open and constructed a barricade to prevent the Swedes from entering the Křižovické square, located in front of the museum building where we find ourselves now. With a snap of a finger, the social status between citizens disappeared, and everyone helped whoever they could. Whether it was an executioner, a priest, or a student, the people of Prague had one thing in mind: defend Prague at all costs!
